Mara Light was born in 1970 in Brooklyn, New York. Both her parents are artists and encouraged her creativity from a very early age.
Her work has been commissioned by both private and public collectors. Mara combines elements of light, color and texture in her work. "When I paint, I am inspired by the presence of my subject whose influence transforms my environment into a deeply personal and emotional experience. To create a painting surface that is full of life, I use a layering process involving texture, paint, and collage that form an underlying structure from which to work. Repetitive layering and painting continue until I sense a harmony is present between the physical components and the evocative aspects of the subject. This process is also characterized by the balance between visual expression of what I see and personal influences that may be hidden within, experienced as a series of investigations and discoveries..."
Mara Light's paintings have been exhibited in galleries and cultural centers. She received a B.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
