Ron Hedrick was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He discovered his talents later than some artists and it was in 1968 when he took his first painting instruction from Western Canadian artist Karl Wood. While living near the town of Kamloops in the rugged interior of BC he took up painting with a passion. Surrounded by spectacular hues, a rolling landscape and the sparkling light of this area, he began to paint what he saw. Ron focussed on our magnificent world that we sometimes take for granted. While in Kamloops, he joined the Federation of Canadian Artists and also first exhibited his work in a commercial gallery.

Strongly influenced by Tom Thompson's powerful colors and heavy impasto oils, Ron's style began to take shape. Hedrick's work is easily recognizable with its bright sunlight, colors and spontaneous, confident brushwork. Always fresh, with a glad-to-be-alive feeling, his landscapes and his people reflect life's energy. He lives with his wife Sandy and daughter Jessica in a rural setting In Mission, British Columbia. His other daughter and her husband have three girls to whom Ron is a proud grandfather. Hedrick has found an ideal environment in which to work.

Ron Hedrick is a dedicated and disciplined artist, spending long hours painting in his studio or en plein air - weather permitting. He is continually exploring new media and techniques, including sculpting and portrait painting. Ron holds workshops in the community, instructs students in his studio and offers advice and encouragement to local artists. He has been Artist in Resident at the Robert Bateman School, teaching value studies in oils and he has a large painting on display there.
