Laura Eklund is a contemporary painter from Eastern Kentucky. Laura has been a painter and poet all her life. She is very influenced by music and poetry, Chinese and Japanese Art, and in particular the abstract expressionist painters. Her paintings are primarily abstract and non-objective in nature, relying on harmony, unity, and the elements of art verses drawing objects from a discernible reality. She also enjoys portraiture and landscape and studies from the figure occasionally as well.

She is represented by Portland Classic Gallery in Portland, Oregon and also shows her work in other galleries across the nation. She is affiliated with The Lexington Art League in Lexington, KY. and is a member of the Cave Run Arts Association in Morehead, KY. Her paintings have won honorable mention and first place awards in Juried Shows. People refer to her sometimes as "The Appalachian Visionary." The few people that know her well (who seldom get to see her when she is not covered in paint) tend to refer to her as the "obsessed artist."

Her paintings are now in several important private and corporate collections across the country including Portland, Oregon, Lexington, Kentucky, and Paragon Music of Columbus, Ohio. and Atlanta, Georgia, and New York, New York. She is married to the poet George Eklund and enjoys spending time with her family and cats when she isn't painting in her new studio.
